LOVE AND LOSS
I laid there drenching my pillow, crying harder than I had ever cried before in my life; after the call that left me confused and bitterly unhappy.
We had met at the school park, about a week after I gained admission into the University. Few weeks later, we started chatting online and even skyping for hours, each day became a Valentine’s day and I was forced to fall in love.
Even Mark Zuckerberg was aware of our courtship and the world was waiting for us to announce our wedding date. I allowed him tear my pants without remorse, entered my London with visa and stole my Virginity.
After five years in the University, I graduated while he was serving in Ondo State. Despite the distance, our love waxed stronger. Each kiss we had was vibrant and ignited love, not knowing it was also a countdown to “Good bye”.
In vain I waited to hear “Baby I’m sorry.., it was all a joke I said I don’t love you anymore…” I thought my heart was living and safe, not knowing it was buried in a dead man’s chest.
The reverse side of love is unbearable loss….., it left me nodding like a Zombie, throwing tea cups at a wall and smashing my cellphone whenever I try to make a call I know he will never answer!
LOVE AND LOSS
“Be ready at 7, I will pick you up” he said and his voice sent shivers down my spine, I had been married to him for two years now,yet I kept falling in love with him everyday; marriage is indeed sweet with the right person.
Giggling, I sprang into my room and skimming through my wardrobe about what to put on, I decided to go blue since that was Richard’s best colour. What can keep a woman truly in love busy except her trying to look best for the one she loves. Getting the right set of shoes to go with the dress was without much ado.
I was busy listening to a song titled “When we first met” and sang along in unison with a smiley plastered face.
It was 5 minutes to 7, and I was set to go out but then… My phone buzzed and I read in anticipation but ..
No one taught me how to run, I picked up the car key and off I went… To the hospital
Richard had been involved in a ghastly accident, he lost his spine and just what else could go wrong. He’s brain dead.
It was Valentine.
I was a fluttering mess as I ran around my room trying to get ready for my date with Timi. I’ve been in love with him for so long but he was oblivious to my heartache. Every time we hung out with friends, he always brought a plus one which made my heart ache. Recently, we began spending so much time together and those were the best times of my life. I was also able to get him to drop his playboy ways. Today was valentine’s day and he wanted to talk to me about something important and with the look in his eyes when he said that, I knew he had finally fallen for me. I got to the Restaurant about fifteen minutes late and saw him sitting alone, I smiled brightly and walked up to my seat. As I placed my order, I notice him fidgeting and took his hand in mine, it must really be difficult for him to confess his feelings. Just then, I felt someone standing behind me and saw Timi smiling brightly, as I turned around I could only hear my heart beating loudly as he said, Bisola please meet Susan, my girlfriend.
At times, the light emanating from a dark corner could be deceiving. This painted my marriage and divorce cycle with Micheal.
Micheal and I met during our NYSC camp in Nasarawa, that was five years ago. We became the best of friends and in few months we became lovers. I couldn’t really decipher what he used on me, because I wouldn’t sleep without listening to his voice. Morning, afternoon, evening, we’re inseparable, he was just the perfect gentle man every ladies wished to have. After the service, my father asked me to take over his company. ‘I’d rather have Micheal in the position’ I said. He accepted, but on the condition of marriage. We got married and Micheal was made the General Manager and I was into gold business. But, since we’re married, there was no pregnancy let alone a child. We’re told by his doctor friend that we’re medically okay. But, a day came when I saw an hospital report in his wardrobe stating that he couldn’t father a child as his semen was weak. The report date was three years back.
‘So, Micheal knew this, yet he keeps deceiving me?. Oh, no! I’ve been duped!’
